Course Description
This course is an introduction to the principles of Electronic Publishing emphasizing the Constructivist theory and its role in creating learning environments that utilize the attributes and powerful resources of the Internet. Emphasis will be placed on pedagogical, technological, organizational, institutional, and ethical issues related to the design, development, and delivery of WBI. This course includes the following:
Course Objectives
Following completion of the course, the student will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental principles of the Internet and the scope of web-based learning and teaching;
  • Apply the use of technological tools to assist with instructional design, teaching, and learning;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of constructivist learning theory, problem-based learning, and other appropriate instructional strategies to develop web-based learning;
  • Design a web-based instructional project that supports K-12 curriculum for a specific audience;
  • Use Adobe PageMill web authoring software and Adobe ImageStyler
  • Apply media design principles in the design and evaluation of web-based instruction.
  • Evaluate web-based learning using examples referenced in textbook.
  • Use the Internet to locate exemplary online resources and evaluate the validity and accuracy of these resources for web-based project.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Baltimore County Public Schools' Telecommunications Policies (acceptable use, ethical issues, intellectual property, privacy) in designing and implementing web-based instruction.
